I’m thrilled to announce my forthcoming book, Misguided, is now under contract with Columbia University Press! It will be published in 2022. While it’s not available for pre-order yet, I will definitely update everyone on my Substack list as soon as it is!
The full title is Misguided: A Closer Look at Misinformation Where it starts, how it spreads, and what to do about it. Misguided uses my 10+ years of research studying human behavior to explore not only the sources of misinformation but why people seek it out, how it perpetuates, and what we can do to address the problem moving forward. While misinformation remains a persistent obstacle for our society, it is not an inevitability. In addition to describing the general psychological and sociological processes behind misinformation, I use attitudes towards COVID-19 guidelines and vaccination hesitancy as case studies that illustrate how misinformation can spread. Finally, I outline several actionable steps implemented at the individual as well as the policy level to combat misinformation. The book concludes by addressing future issues to consider as technology advances and our media consumption evolves.
Writing a nonfiction book was always a major goal of mine. The topic of my research area only continues to become more relevant so I decided to share what I’ve learned in a book! Misguided summarizes a lot of academic literature, but also aims to be accessible for non-academics. I look forward to sharing updates about my book and sharing the final version with you all!
